Build Day was incredible, what a fantastic turn out! We can't thank our captains and volunteers enough for making this day more than we could have hoped for. Our construction manager Mark Smith was so great to work with, he was patient and had such great spirit inspite of some glitches and alot of rain during prep week.
We will be posting picture of our successful day hopefully tomorrow.
We would also like to thank the family of George McLeod for coming out and spending the day with us. We are honor to have our playground dedicated to such an outstanding person who dedicated himself to his country and community.
We would also like to thank Ian Hill and Let Them Be Kids for the opportunity to make a 4 year project into a 4 month project. Thanks so much for believing in our community and helping to bring us back together. Also giving us this beautiful space to gather with our friends and family. You are all so great to work with!!

Parking

Due to the number of volunteers and limited parking right around the school we are going to park everyone over at the Alder Flats Hall.  If you have tools you are bringing to the build day feel free to drop them off and then park over at the hall to save packing them.

Things are coming together very well for the playground project. Volunteers, tools and equipment are coming from everywhere and we (the playground committee) couldn't be happier that things are going so great!!

Thanks again Alder Flats/Buck Lake, this project wouldn't be happening if it weren't for you!!

One month to go!

With one month to go, we are in high gear.  Our final playground plans have been approved and can be seen at the right of this blog.  We are now trying to contact all volunteers to finalize details and assignments for build day.  If you have not been contacted yet please let us know.  We need signed forms from all volunteers to make sure we have enough food and supplies for everyone, and to make sure safety requirements are fulfilled.  If you would still like to contribute and help us reach or beat our goal please contact us!

We had a great day at the Rodeo Parade today!  Personal invitations were given to all spectators and many families showed up with banners and signs to help keep the excitement going.

We are on track for a fantastic finale June 25th.
Be part of Alder Flats history!

Supper and Dance Fundraiser

What an amazing success our dinner and dance was. We would like to thank everyone in the community that came out to support our great cause! We were amazed that we sold out of tickets, never could we have imagined that over 400 hundred people would come. We had so many great auction items and such great support from the local businesses. In all we raised just over $20,000.00. . We received such positive feedack (with only a few minor hiccups) that we are considering making it an annual event . Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it was great to see all the kids up dancing!!

We would also love to give a big thanks to BP Canada for their enormous generosity of $15,000.00 and Enerplus for their donation of $5,000.00. We are getting ever closer to our goal!! We are now awaiting our build day and will keep you all posted. Can't wait to see you all there on build day!

Where we are at now!!!

First of all I would like to make a shout out to all of those community members who have offered to volunteer on build day and to those who have already given donations to the playground. Items are coming in for the silent and live auction to be held at the Family Supper & Dance April 16th Thank-you for your donations!  It is community members like you who make this project possible.

We are now done the dot mocracy in which the children voted for their playground equipment.  Paris playground is now in the process of getting the playground drawn up and sent back to us, so we are very excited for that, which we should see within the next few days!

As we said above the planning of the Family Supper and Dance April 16, is in full swing.  We really hope to see you there with your family and friends.  You might have seen the posters hung up around the community and if you haven't, Black Water Crude has generously donated their time to entertain us for the evening and we can't thank them enough, they will make this event amazing!! Doors will open at 5pm, Steak Plates-$15.00  and Hamburger Plates-$8.00  Dance will begin 8pm.  We also have some young teens stepping up to help organize some children events from 5-8pm to keep our little ones busy.  Thank-you to our younger generations for the generousity, it is good to see young volunteers!  Tickets are available for presale April 1 at Seely's General, Alder Flats School, Whispers Hair Studio and the Buck Lake Grocery.

THANKS AGAIN TO THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY FOR YOUR GENEROUSITY AND SUPPORT!!!  LETS KEEP IT UP!!!

Tuesday 22 March 2011

We have just received the most amazing news today and would like to share it with everyone.  The oil company Pennwest has just donated us $10 000.00 dollars towards our playground.  They are also going to donate items to our silent auction and offered use of equipment on build day.  We can't thank them enough for their generosity.  We also need to thank a certain young girl named Philippa Madill who was our very first donator.  She donated her weekly allowance of $4.00 toward our playground.  Sometimes it is the smallest hearts that have the deepest impact on us. Thank you

WE DID IT!!!! WE'VE BEEN AWARDED!!!

We are so happy to announce that we have won the Let Them Be Kids Helping Hands Award to help us build a new play park.  The Helping Hands Award is only given to a select few and WE ARE ONE OF THEM.  So join in, get excited, and keep coming back for more information in the weeks ahead....

The Project

Fellowship of Alder Flats School Committee was formed to help bring the community a new play park.   We learned about the Let Them Be Kids Helping Hands Award and applied with our fingers crossed.  WE WON...  We plan to work with Helping Hands (who have done this kind of project numerous times before) and rally volunteers throughout our community to build a play park.  Throughout the following months we will be asking for your help in a variety of ways and we look forward to getting our community working together.

With the funds we generate, we will be able to enhance our children's lives with accessible playground equipment, create a social hub for families in and around the Alder Flats area, and bring back community pride with active participation from residents in rebuilding the play park.

Thank-you's are necessary to the following people and groups that made the first steps of this project possible: Alder Flats AG Society, the Zone 4 Recreation Board, Alder Flats School Parent Council, Mr. Sean Madill, who has went above and beyond to make this a reality, and to all the community residents who are as excited about this venture as we are!
